The agenda is here for the meeting today of the South Dakota Retirement System board of trustees and the Legislature’s Retirement Laws Committee. The gathering starts at 8:30 a.m. CT at View 34 east of Pierre on State Highway 34.
Legislators accepted the trustees’ recommendation and agreed to create a second retirement system that started for employees hired on or after July 1, 2017.
The second system has a different approach to benefits than the original system that remains in place for employees hired on June 30, 2017, or earlier.
This will be the first joint meeting of the two panels since the new system began. SDRS covers employees of state government, including South Dakota’s public universities, and participating municipalities, counties, school boards and other local-government units.
